Description

Cameron Schwab leadership speaker sessions come from a former AFL CEO and one of the most influential leadership voices in Australian sport. Richmond Football Club appointed him CEO at just 24, the youngest in the history of the game. He went on to spend 25 years as CEO of three AFL clubs, the second-longest serving CEO in the modern game.

Cameron Schwab Leadership Speaker: Turning Clubs Around

Every club Cameron led shared something in common. Each was at its lowest ebb, uncompetitive on the field, and facing financial, structural and strategic challenges that threatened its survival. In every case, he restored the club’s fortunes, both on and off the field. As a result, Richmond, Melbourne and Fremantle are now vibrant, financial and highly competitive clubs.

A Career Defined by Turnarounds

At Richmond, Cameron developed the Save Our Skin campaign, which saved the club from bankruptcy. The club later named it its Defining Moment of the Century at the 2008 Centennial Celebrations. At Melbourne, his priority was unification, after the club had almost merged with Hawthorn the year before. Under his leadership, Melbourne climbed from last place to the top four within a year. Two years later, the club reached the Grand Final, all while growing attendances by 65 percent.

At Fremantle, Cameron transformed a loss-making, debt-laden club into a regular finalist ranked among the AFL’s top three clubs for profitability. Revenue grew by 320 percent, and the balance sheet improved by $13 million. He also served as CEO of afl.com.au, where he negotiated the league’s first online rights sale to Telstra.

Carlton Football Club Senior Coach Michael Voss has credited Cameron’s sessions with making him a better leader. In addition, CPA Australia rated his keynote 4.9 out of 5, one of the highest scores of the event, with attendees describing it as inspiring and thought-provoking.
