Dr Craig Challen is a motivational speaker, cave diver and 2019 Australian of the Year. In 2018, he made headlines around the world when he helped rescue 12 Thai boys and their coach from the Tham Luang Cave. Craig Challen Motivational Speaker: Career and Background
Craig worked alongside his dive partner, Dr Richard Harris, when the pair joined the rescue of the Thai soccer team. International media spotlighted the incident. As a result, Craig and his fellow divers felt pressure to solve the situation quickly.
Craig and his team worked up to 16 hours a day. They explored multiple solutions to find the best outcome. In the end, Craig’s expertise proved crucial in helping transport the diving equipment that helped the boys escape.
In recognition of this heroism, both Craig and Dr Harris received the title of Australian of the Year in 2019. This made them the first pair ever to share the award jointly. Craig also received an Order of Australia Medal for his service to the international community.
Craig later co-authored a book, Against All Odds, with Dr Harris. The book recounts their experience in Thailand. Today, it stands as a defining example of Australian courage in the face of adversity.
