Description

Kate Munari motivational speaker sessions come from Australia’s only female Navy helicopter pilot to fly operationally in Afghanistan. She retired from the Royal Australian Navy after 17 years of service. Along the way, she led teams through some of the toughest conditions any workplace can present.

What a Kate Munari motivational speaker session covers

Kate joined the Royal Australian Navy at 18 through the Australian Defence Force Academy, where she completed a Bachelor of Science degree. She qualified as a helicopter pilot in 2006. From there, the Royal Navy selected her for a four and a half year posting in the United Kingdom. She flew with Commando Helicopter Force in support of the Royal Marine Commandos.

Kate served in Afghanistan three times, flying day and night in all weather conditions as aircraft captain and formation commander. She was the only female pilot among a workforce of over 150 pilots and aircrew. During one mission, enemy fire hit her Sea King helicopter mid air while she carried responsibility for 16 personnel on board. Through experiences like this, she learned firsthand what it takes to make critical decisions under extreme pressure.

Keynote themes: leadership, resilience and gender in the workplace

In her keynotes on leadership and resilience, Kate explains why effective leadership comes down to two essential components: strong communication and understanding your team. Specifically, she shares strategies for empowering a team, making decisions under pressure, positive mentoring and the power of accountability.

Kate also explores unconscious bias and gender in the workplace. Specifically, she draws on her own experience in alpha male military bases in Australia and overseas. In particular, she shares how her own assumptions were challenged and broken. She also explains why organisations cannot allow gender to be a limiting factor. As a result, audiences leave with a clear sense of why great leadership starts and ends with the team.

Kate has spoken for organisations including Amazon Web Services and SAP. As a result, her sessions leave audiences with lasting inspiration through an engaging blend of storytelling, humour and powerful insight into human potential.
